About Us

MY NAME IS RICH JOHNSON. My home and studio are located in the Catskill mountains of upstate New York. I have a bachelor’s degree in studio art with an art history minor.

Exploring nature in all its myriad and beautiful forms is a perpetual source of inspiration and awe. I also attempt to preserve that beauty by utilizing hydrothermal solar collectors as well as high efficiency wood burning equipment to minimize our heating oil requirements.

In addition, whenever possible, I purchase locally sourced lumber from sustainable growth forests with the generous and informed assistance of the watershed agricultural council — www.nycwatershed.org.

Inspiration

Major influences include the organic works of Wendell Castle and Albert Paley as well as the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements and the architecture of Frank Loyd Wright and others including Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Antoni Gaudi, Santiago Calatrava and Frank Gehry. Other influences include Marcel Duchamp, Robert Smithson, and many more including Greta Thunberg.
